Brits Prefer Facebook

An interesting new survey finds that Britons are obsessed with Facebook. Granted, social networking is one technology that people cannot live without, but for it to become more vital than flushing a toilet is little bizarre! In a spot poll of 3,000 adults conducted by London's Science Museum, the researchers picked 50 things one cannot live without and found that staying connected on Facebook came fifth, leaving flushing toilet, a shower, email and Twitter behind. Cell phones also ranked higher than services like Google, Ebay, iPod, Nintendo Wii, iPad and Xbox. The poll found Brits considered sunshine the most important thing for living followed by the internet. Survey findings:- The survey was part of their project 'Water Wars: Fight The Food Crisis.' The poll found Brits considered sunshine the most important thing for living followed by the internet. Clean drinking water gained the third spot, owning a fridge the fourth while NHS bagged the sixth spot. The museum's exhibition manager, Sarah Richardson, stated, 'Brits are obsessed by the weather, so it's not surprising sunshine was rated as the top thing we couldn't live without. But to say you can't live without material things over drinking water is crazy. 'It seems having fresh drinking water is something that many of us take for granted but is becoming scarcer in many parts of the world. If you see how little water others have to drink or grow food you soon realise water is fast becoming a luxury for millions.' Others in the top list of 50:- Among the other things considered fairly important for Brits was the cooker at seventh place, email at eighth and flushing toilet at the ninth position. A surprise element of the survey was that mobile phones surpassed the need for washing machine, central heating, and air conditioning. At number ten, cell phones also ranked higher than services like Google, Ebay, iPod, Nintendo Wii, iPad and Xbox.
