Recommended Cleaning Steps for Your Turkish Area Rugs

There are two types of cleaning processes commonly used for Turkish area rugs: in home cleaning methods that use steaming, and factory methods that employ a more detailed approach that doesn't involve steaming. The primary problems with steam cleaning are two: it doesn't remove dirt and grit from rugs' bottommost fibers, and it leaves rugs moist, encouraging mildewing. Factory cleaning, on the other hand, poses neither of these problems.

Best Cleaning Practice for Turkish Area Rugs: Nine Essential Steps

Factory cleaning is the best cleansing method for fine Turkish rugs. From start to finish, the in factory cleansing process involves nine steps. We list them below.

Step 1: Pick Up

First, the carpet service arrives at your residence to transport your rug to its facility.

Step 2: Thorough Inspection

Once at the facility, your carpet is thoroughly inspected for stains, soiled areas, and any damage that may need repair. If present, these areas are photographed for cleaning/repair purposes.

Step 3: Stains are Pre-Spotted and Damage is Repaired

After being identified in the inspection process, stains and soiled areas are pre-spotted with a special solution that will remove them without causing damage, and damage is repaired if the service provides this option.

Step 4: Dust Removal

After the pre-spotting phase, your rug is placed in a dusting machine that contains a high horsepower motor that vibrates your rug without causing rough motion, removing as much as 80% of the rug's dust and grit prior to the cleansing process.

Step 5: Cleansing with Soap and Water

Unless its material, age, or other factors determine a different course of action, your rug will be washed in a large, gentle washer with special soaps and applications that clean it and restore the luster that wears away due to foot traffic and furniture compression.

Step 6: Water Wringing

After the washing process is finished, your rug will be placed in a water extractor that spins at high speeds. Because your rug remains fixed in place throughout the spinning process, its fibers remain protected from the spinning motion.

Step 7: Temperature Controlled Drying

After having most of the water wrung from its pile and fringes, your rug is hung within a temperature controlled drying hanger. After its pile dries, its fringes will be washed by hand, after which it be returned to the drying hanger for the fringes to dry.

Step 8: Final Inspection and Grooming

Once your rug is completely dry, its fringes are combed and its pile is manicured before it is repackaged for delivery.

Step 9: Delivery

After your carpet is delivered to your residence, you should inspect the results to see if you are satisfied. If you aren't, most carpet services will offer to repeat the cleansing process-or certain parts of it-until your rug meets your specifications.
